An important anchor has returned to life. That anchor is called baseball. The new season starts and along with it an endless stream of meaningless games that wash over you in a wave of security and relaxation. A blanket of comfort. "Swing and a long one, a home run by Tino Martinez cuts the lead in half with a two run shot!" These are the words in my ears as I type this message. I played baseball in my youth, and it was one of my few happy memories. I did not care for professional sports my entire life, and did not begin watching baseball until about 5 years ago when Mark McGuire was going for the home run record and the entire town was going nuts. After that hysteria died down I found that listening to a baseball game on the radio was very relaxing. A slight change in attitude, and something that used to be considered 'completely boring' suddenly became 'completely relaxing'. It's all about attitude. I now listen to every Cardinals base
I may not be posting on this forum for a while, I'm really busy.
Ok, I didn't think I would ever get political on this blogsite, but I have nothing else to talk about and haven't posted in days. I'll keep this short and sweet. Because I'm looking forward to the latest reality show, you know the one where we bomb Iraq and they show it on TV on every channel 24/7, I put my radio on an all talk station. I've been listening to it a tiny bit for the last couple days and, to be frank, I'm shocked. First of all, I guess I have to declare my political leanings. I'm a moderate. About the only thing I'm a radical about is freedom of speech and freedom from religion. That's about it. Do I think we should go to war with Iraq? I don't know, don't ask me. I see arguments for and against. It's a complex and difficult issue with many valid points on both sides. So, what's my beef? Well, I'm listening to this talk radio show and, apparently, it's a 'conservative' station. Read th
I just got my copy of "Lady and the Tramp" yesterday, as well as my solar panel set up. The copy of "Lady and the Tramp" has some color shift, torwards blue green instead of pure blue but, apparently, it's still considered 'excellent color' by collectors standards. It's going to take me a while to really get the hang of all of the details on this hobby. I just found out there is a 16mm film collectors club in the St. Louis area. It has been in existance for 11 years and has about 25 members. They have a movie showing on the 3rd Saturday of every month at a member's home. They are having a showing this Saturday of Woody Allen's "Radio Days". Apparently the guy who is sponsoring the showing has a theatre in his home with 16mm, 35mm, and DLP! Wow, I can't wait to meet these people and become involved with the organization. I have already volunteered to show "The Court Jester" at our home this August. I sco
I'm just updating my site today with links to three of my blog posts that were more like articles: How I got into 16mm film collecting What makes for a successful movie showing event. Fundraisers as social events.
I am about to post an extremely offensive link. It's not offensive to me, but I know it will be very offensive to many people. Andy Milonakis, of "The Superbowl is Gay" fame, has made something like 70 internet video 'comedy' skits. The thing is, out of 70 attempts at being funny, he is only actually funny about 5 times. However, when he gets it right, he really gets it right. Today I am posting a link to one of his videos that I started watching, said to myself, 'cute', and then closed it long before it was over. This evening I was showing my teenage kids a few select Andy videos and I went ahead and clicked on this video, only this time I let it play to the very end. The final joke in this comedy bit is *soooo* funny I almost hurt myself laughing. That said, I have to explain some context. I am a radical atheist and have some very strong opinions about how Christianity has been used to inflict pain and guilt on our youth. I won't belabor
I am very excited about my lastest 16mm purchase! I just used "Buy It Now" to snarf up a copy of Disney's "Lady and the Tramp". This is one of the rarest and hard to come by Disney films. The film is in phenomenal condition with perfect color. The only flaw is that it is close captioned, so it has text running through the print. However, considering the price I've decided I can live with that. Anyway, I show movies in noisy environments so often, I think it will be fine. And it helps kids who are learning to read, right?
Not too much news today. Two of my children have band concerts today, Lauren is playing the coronet in Middle School, and Johnny is playing the baritone in the High School band. Andy Milonakis got more network exposure last week, and will be going on the Jimmy Kimmel show soon. Should be fun, it's intesting to watch an internet fad evolve in real time like this. I just updated my movie prices web page today, it is now current with movie closings for the last couple of months.
A little bit of Andy Milonakis news, for anyone who cares besides me. Andy's video "The Superbowl is Gay" is going to be shown on the Jimmy Kimmell show on Thursday night.
Well, I'm back from my four day weekend. Actually it was a two day weekend with two days of traveling. which raises some interesting points in and of itself. For one day, I was laying in a hammock on a beach in the Bahamas just like those crystal blue advertisements in the travel magazines. What could have been better? No travel time and four days in the hammock, that's what. You see, that's the problem with a cruise. If you live in Florida, then a cruise is just fine. But if you have to fly, the full day of travel time on each end detracts a lot from the experience. I have a lot to say about cruise travel. And memory. It always comes back to memory with me. You see, I went on a cruise ten years ago for my honeymoon. As I experienced this cruise I slowly began to remember lots of details about my first one. The shame of it is, if I had remembered any of this before I booked this trip, well, to be honest, I would not have traveled this way. Don't get me
